This is a video of Dr. Manny Alvarez (fox news medical contributor) answering questions about Acomplia, a new weight loss pill which actually works.
Here is briefly what he said about Acomplia (Rimonabant):
A new drug already in use in Europe is not a miracle drug. It works a little different than other pills because it works in the central nervous system. It’s the “anti munchies pill” - the same effect that you get from marihuana which makes you hungry all the time. Rimonabant works in the same area of the brain but what it does, it takes away that desire to eat.
Now if you look at what it does as side effects, yes it makes you a little bit more uptight, some people get a bit anxious. But it does reduce weight by 5 or 6 percent so when you’re talking about dealing with the weight issue this might be the pill that may hold the future. It’s very popular in Europe, it might be comming here in the US. Pfizer is looking also at a similar drug. In europe doctors are prescribing it and it is working.
